Join us as we welcome ALL
Sunday Worship 10:30 am

Emmanuel celebrated its Open & Affirming status at a worship service on April 7. We welcome the LGBTQ+ community, persons of every color, physical ability, ethnic origin, family structure, faith background, etc. Emmanuel has been working on its Open & Affirming process for nearly two years and is the only ONA church in Hanover and Adams County.

Open & Affirming Welcoming Statement

We, the members of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Hanover, Pennsylvania, are a community of Christians who believe that all people are created in God’s image. As we seek to fulfill our mission to live out Christ’s compassion and grace, fairness and equality, we welcome into our community of faith all persons of every gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, mental and physical ability, age, race, ethnic origin, economic and social status, faith background, marital standing and family structure; and we invite each of them to share in the life, leadership, ministry, fellowship, worship, rites and sacraments, responsibilities, blessings and joys of our congregation as we seek to grow together in faith and love. Therefore, we celebrate ourselves as an Open and Affirming Christian Community.

Events & Activities

November 2019

Sundays
10:30 am: The worship schedule includes services at 10:30 am in the historic sanctuary with music from Emmanuel choirs, Time for Children, Children's Sunday School, and refreshments afterward during Fellowship Hour.

 

Adult Learning Hour is held at 9:15 am in Bowers Chapel. This fall, class members will look at "Surprised by Paradox: The Promise of 'And' in an Either-or-World" by Jen Pollock Michel, which examines a Christian faith open to mystery. Mondays
1-4 pm: Compassionate Crafters of all skill levels meet Mondays in the Pastor's Parlor to knit or crochet for a purpose. Everyone is welcome.

Wednesdays, November 6 and 20

1:30-4 pm: Afternoon of Games meets in King Auditorium for Scrabble and refreshments. Invite a friend or neighbor. For info, call Carol Giesey at 717-632-2665.

Thursday Choir Rehearsals

6-6:50 pm: Emmanuel Ringers hand bells

7-8:30 pm: Chancel Choir and Cantata (no rehearsal November 28)

Wednesday, November 27

The Hanover Area Council of Churches will hold its annual ecumenical Thanksgiving Eve Service at 7 pm, Nov. 27, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 127 York St., Hanover. The speaker will be Pastor Steve Salisbury from Grace United Methodist Church. Emmanuel's Director of Music Don Horneff will accompany the service on the organ and EUCC Choir Director Jamie Brown will lead a choir from participating churches. Donations of #10 cans will be collected.
